So, after much thought I finally caved.....yes the Leica M Monochrom is in New Zealand. This camera has been on my mind since the rumors of its release were confirmed. I resisted the urge initially, thought I'd wait to see what the M would offer and whilst that also appeals to me I'm a B&W photographer at heart. Having seen the output of the Monochrom from such people as Ashwin Rao, Steve Huff, Jono Slack and Kristian Dowling I felt I really needed to see what I could achieve with this camera.
It's not that the Leica M9 isn't capable of delivering great B&W images, on the contrary I have always been very happy with the output as you will see here - When it doesn't quite go to plan and here - The Producers. The Monochrom provides a capability to shoot in low light that the M9 just can't compete with and its my hope that I will be able to squeeze something extra special out of the Monochrom once we're fully aquatinted.
I won't be doing any reviews of the camera, others have covered that adequately, I will however voice my thoughts on certain aspects of its performance as and when its appropriate.
I'd certainly welcome the thoughts and experiences of others by way of comments on this post, additionally I'd love to know if there is anyone else here in New Zealand with this camera, maybe we can compare notes and share the experience.
