Back in July, I took a little road trip with the New Wotancraft Commander. It wasn’t a long trip but it has proven to be a significant one. In the time I was away I took the opportunity to reflect on my photography in general and the future of this website.
Over the last couple of years I have more or less turned my back on photography, indeed I’ve hardly thought about cameras let alone picked one up. When the Facebook algorithms can’t detect a single shred of photographic interest in anything you do online you know you’re fully cleansed.
Whilst I’d pushed photography away the www.aperturepriority.co.nz website sat mostly idol. At times I considered allowing the hosting and the domain to expire but I was never quite able to bring myself to do it, in-spite of the continued expense.
The short trip I made to the Mahia Peninsular with the Wotancraft Commander lit a tiny spark in my enthusiasm for photography. That trip, coupled with a few other events that I will elaborate on in future posts have given me my mojo back!!! In turn, I have focused intently on the positive and negative influences around my photography and the www.aperturepriority.co.nz website.
The more eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed that the www.aperturepriority.co.nz website has gone and that you have been redirected elsewhere. This is very significant, in the main because it represents a move away from the Wordpress platform that had become a complete thorn in my side. I’ve spent countless hours and dollars maintaining the site even when I’m not posting. The issues with Wordpress are constant…..Wordpress updates, you have issues, your theme updates, you have issues, plugins update, you have issues, plugins don’t update, you have issues…….it’s endless and quite frankly soul destroying.
So, I’ve done now what I should have done several years ago and moved to Squarespace in the hope that I will be able to spend more time taking photographs and writing. Yes even writing is painful on Wordpress.
Also gone is the www.aperturepriority.co.nz domain in favour of my own name. I pretty much hated that domain from the moment I created it and it holds no relevance or meaning to me.
All the original content is still here but everything will now be posted at the www.jasonhowe.blog website.
I will elaborate more on the future direction of this site in upcoming posts.
